Mercedes-Benz is taking a page out of BMW’s book with the announcement that it too will be creating a unique sub-brand for its new electric vehicles – EQ. Mercedes has released a preview of one of the sub-brand’s first models with the debut of the Generation EQ concept this week at the Paris Motor Show.
The Generation concept is an SUV concept that previews a Tesla Model X rival. It features two electric motors that generate a total 402 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. of torque. The 70 kWh lithium-ion battery gives the SUV concept a driving range just over 300 miles and its possible to use a fast charger to add 62 miles of range in only five minutes.
Mercedes hasn’t announced when the first models from its new EQ sub-brand will be released, but it’s expected by the end of the decade. All of the models will feature the EQ name, with a third letter attached at the end to denote the model’s placement in the lineup, like EQS and EQC.
