Toyota has unveiled the all-new 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback, which gets an extra dose of style and sportiness over its predecessor. Hatchbacks are definitely back and Toyota is finally ready to take on the best from the segment, like the Civic and Mazda3 hatchbacks with the 2019 Corolla.
The 2019 Corolla Hatchback is now an inch lower, 1.2-inches wider and 1.5-inches longer than the outgoing Corolla iM. IT also has wider front and rear tracks and its wheels have been pushed to the corners to give it a sportier, more planted look than before. It’s hood also sits two inches lower and its overall styling stands out more than many of the past Corollas.
The 2019 Corolla Hatchback’s styling is an evolution of Toyota’s Under Priority Catamaran and Keen Look design philosophies, which make the hatchback look wider than before. Its front overhang has also been shortened by 0.8 inches to give it a more athletic look and its chiseled lines make the 2019 Corolla Hatchback stand out more than the old Corolla iM.
Under the hood the Corolla Hatchback is powered by a new 2.0L four-cylinder that is actually smaller and lighter than the old 1.8L. Toyota hasn’t released the specs for the 2.0L, but it will be available with either a six-speed manual or CVT transmission. The CVT has simulated 10-speed Sequential Shiftmatic steps, Sport Mode, and paddle shifters.
Inside the biggest thing you’ll immediately notice is that Toyota has finally decided to add Apple CarPlay connectivity and the overall look of the interior is sportier. Apple CarPlay is accessed via a standard 8-inch touchscreen provides access to vehicle settings, audio controls, navigation, smartphone, and Entune 3.0 apps. There’s also a wireless charger for your cell phone, Amazon Alexa integration and Wi-Fi connect.
On the safety front the 2019 Corolla Hatchback comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense, which includes a Pre-Collision system with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beam and Lane Tracing Assist.
